UMAC Forwarders Express, Inc. traces its roots in the balikbayan box delivery industry from 1988 when its Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Benjamin M. Cariño, organized and implemented the nationwide delivery systems and operations of UMAC’s predecessor company. On June 20, 2003, UMAC formally came into being after its incorporation. The company is named after the late Teodoro “Uncle Mac” Cariño, a beloved family and industry figure who rejuvenated the balikbayan box business in the U.S. and restored the faith of overseas Filipinos in sending balikbayan boxes.
What started as a delivery operation with fifteen personnel and two second-hand delivery vehicles has turned into one of the leading balikbayan box delivery companies in the Philippines. UMAC presently employs about three hundred office staff and delivery crew and has an operations fleet of almost a hundred delivery and hauling vehicles. From its humble beginnings of renting an apartment complex in Quezon City to serve as its only warehouse, UMAC now owns and operates three spacious warehouses in Metro Manila, the Province of La Union, and Cagayan Valley. UMAC has also established warehouses and operations in Mindoro, Aklan, Palawan, Bacolod, Cebu, Iloilo, Tacloban, Bohol, Butuan, Cagayan De Oro, SOCCKSARGEN, and Davao to ensure the delivery of balikbayan boxes in the whole of the Philippines.
UMAC has likewise enlarged its market. When it began operations, UMAC delivered balikbayan boxes which came only from the U.S. Today, UMAC also delivers balikbayan boxes picked up by UMAC shipping units from Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Bahrain, Spain, Iceland, Greece, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Guam, Palau, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea.
